The Auld family have a long history in the Barossa, dating back to 1842 when Patrick Auld planted the Auldana vineyard just outside Adelaide.

  • Wilberforce Riesling 2021

Named after William Patrick Auld’s 17 hand chestnut stallion, Wilberforce is a true work horse of the Auld range. Classic Eden Valley Riesling, showing intense floral aromas coupled with hints of citrus on the nose. Lots of depth on the palate, with notes of lime and clementine. A long mineral finish. The vineyards are located at the southern end of the valley, protecting them from much of the searing summer heat. The grapes were picked overnight in early March at perfect ripeness. Lower yields produced intensity and chalkiness in the fruit.

  • Wilberforce Cabernet Shiraz

A combination of small and medium size static fermenters was used, with ‘wild’ yeasts present on the grape skins being allowed to initiate fermentation. Cultured winery yeasts were then added to complete the fermentation and parcels were then pressed and run to barrel with the result being a wine with excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity.

  • Strawbridge Shiraz 2019

William Patrick’s famous affinity with his horse Wilberforce was, naturally, no match for the articulate Eliza Strawbridge. The pair fell in love while WP was working with Eliza’s father at the surveyor general’s office in Adelaide and were married on November 15, 1866. A rich, velvety palate, packed wild blackberries and smoky biscuit dough. The tannins are broad, ripe and generous, yet the finish is fresh, lingering and leaves the impression of dark chocolate and rhubarb compote.
