Founded in 2004 by Belarmino Fernandez and Alfonso Chacon, Canopy has (quite unassumingly) played a significant role in helping the wider world to appreciate what the ‘New Spain’ is capable of.

  • Loco

Fermented in steel and French oak and then aged in a mixture of steel and foudres with plentiful battonage. Named ‘Loco’ because apparently the team went completely bonkers when they found a 65 year old Garnacha Blanca vineyard, literally the only remaining example in central Spain. Each bottle wears it’s own strait jacket, in case you were in any doubt as to the wine’s distinct personality.

  • Ganadero Blanco

90% Macabeo, 5% Verdejo & 5% Grenache. Stainless steel ferment. Elegant with its floral, grassiness but surprisingly complex too, with fennel, strawberry and peach notes.

  • Ganadero Tinto

100% Grenache. 45+ year old vines. Long pre-ferment maceration. 3 months in French oak. Vibrant blueberry and floral notes, wonderful acidity, buttery tannins.

  • Castillo de Belarfonso

An amalgam of the two founders’ names complete with its own bouncy castle, a tongue-in-cheek reference to France’s ‘grand vins’ and their imposing chateaux. 100% old vine Grenache from the granitic soils of El Real de San Vicente. Very much a ‘vin de soif’ but not at the expense of complexity, thanks to 6 months in French oak.

  • Malpaso

100% Syrah from 35 year old trellised vines in Camarena, Mentrida. Aged for 12 months in 500 litre French oak barrels. No stabilisation or filtration. Abundant dark fruit, Mediterranean herb, spice, balanced acidity, ripe tannins and heaps of concentration. Powerful, rich and persistent. Voted ‘Second best Syrah in Spain’ by Guia Penin 2020.

  • Congo

Unexpected notes of red fruits, strawberries, blueberries and plum. Floral aromas of violets together with hints of chocolate and hazelnut. It’s simply delightful and opens up in the glass.

  • La Vina Escondida

Bright and lively ruby red colour. The nose shows enormous complexity, we find aromas of cherries, violets, gunpowder, smoked plums, incense, raspberry, blackberry and well assembled wood together with mineral flashes

  • Tres Patas

Attractive and bright cherry color of medium intensity. Its nose is very fragrant, fresh, floral and rich in nuances, with notes of Mediterranean forest, where red fruits, minerality and very subtle spicy notes stand out. In the mouth, it’s medium-bodied, with good volume, succulent, fleshy and very fresh. The finish is intense and refreshing, with good aromatic persistence.

  • Kos

With a deep intensity, its bright red color is reminiscent of ripe cherries. On the nose, it’s complex and elegant, with an aromatic palette in which the primary aromas of fresh fruit, orange peel and aromatic herbs stand out, accompanied by a minerality that is expressed as graphite notes, together with aromas of cocoa and a toasted flavor characteristic of aging in French oak.
